Exciting times at 21st Century Clinic with a new merger

We have moved

We have some exciting news to share – we are delighted to announce that 21st Century Clinic will be merging with The Howard Clinic, giving patients access to a more extensive range of treatments. Our location is now: Unit 1, 229a Hyde End Road, Spencers Wood, RG7 1BU.

A little bit of background

21st Century Clinic is a multidisciplinary clinic offering Chiropractic, physiotherapy, podiatry, sports massage and Acupuncture. It was formed in 2013 by Rachel Ackroyd, the principal chiropractor who felt that her patients would benefit from a number of different treatment modalities working together to get the best results for each individual patient.

The Howard Clinic is a Physiotherapy clinic that was established in 2006 by Cathy Howard, a chartered Physiotherapist with over 30 years of clinical experience. During her time at The Howard Clinic, she has worked with many skilled physiotherapists with a diverse range of clinical expertise, including sports injuries, post-operative orthopaedic rehabilitation, acupuncture, gait and running analysis, neurological (brain and spinal cord conditions). She has also worked with students providing an insight into the role of physiotherapy and loves teaching  – both clients and therapists!

What’s behind the merger?

The Howard Clinic team has been working from Pulse 8 Health Club in Wokingham and consists of a team of physiotherapists offering a number of different treatments. They specialise in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and Neuro Physiotherapy. The impending closure of Pulse 8 Health Club in December 2019 meant that The Howard Clinic was looking for new premises to continuing working from. Cathy Howard and Rachel Ackroyd decided that the Howard Clinic would be a great asset to the team at 21st Century Clinic.

This move will give patients of The Howard Clinic and 21st Century Clinic a wider variety of treatments. Although 21st Century Clinic had a small team of musculoskeletal physiotherapists, it had never been able to offer Neuro Physiotherapy with specialist physios being able to treat conditions like Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, strokes and spinal cord injuries.

The merger will formally take place on 1st October 2019. This will be an exciting time for all involved in The Howard Clinic and 21st Century Clinic. All enquiries should now be directed to 21st Century Clinic on 01189 31144 or [email protected].

So what will change?

The Howard Clinic patients can now benefit from our online booking system and a wider choice of treatments that are all available under one roof. The Howard Clinic will still function as a separate entity under 21st Century Clinic. This means the only difference to patients will be the change in the location – this is Unit 1, 229a Hyde End Road, Spencers Wood, RG7 1BU. All patients will be able to see the great team of physios and still receive the same great physiotherapy treatment that is on offer. The only thing we, unfortunately, cannot provide is hydrotherapy sessions.

Rachel Ackroyd director of 21st Century Clinic says “This is an exciting time for all involved in this merger. I am looking forward to The Howard Clinic team joining us at 21st Century Clinic to give us one of the most experienced and diverse teams of multi-disciplinary practitioners that can work together to give our patients the best patient experience possible.“

Cathy Howard, director of The Howard Clinic, added “An opportunity for change open to me earlier this year, resulted in me meeting Rachel at 21st Century Clinic, a purpose-built, multi-disciplinary clinic just a few miles from our current location. We agreed that the merger of our 2 clinics could offer patients greater choice and approaches from a more holistic perspective, including Chiropractic, McTimoney Chiropractic, Podiatry and Sports Massage. The clinicians will have the opportunity to teach each other and help patients find the best therapy or combination of therapists to get the best results.”
