Laser Therapy now available at 21st Century Clinic, Reading.

We at 21st Century Clinic in Reading, Berkshire are pleased to announce the arrival of a new Low Level Laser Therapy unit to the clinic. We will be one of the few multidisciplinary clinics in Reading, Berkshire to offer this therapy to our patients. So let us tell you a little about how it works and what it can treat.

The Low Level Laser Therapy works to repair tissues, increase the tensile strength of the repaired tissue, balance the collagen production reducing scarring, stimulate the immune system and relieve pain. Due to its low power nature the effects are biochemical and not thermal which means it doesn’t heat and there is therefore no resulting damage to the tissue, in fact it can improve the appearance of scaring. It therefore has many different clinical applications. We will pick out a few conditions we frequently see in the clinic in Reading which we will be able to use the Low Level Laser Therapy Unit to treat. For any more information on the other conditions that can be treated with Low Level Laser Therapy at our clinic in Reading, please contact the clinic today and the staff will be able to talk you through the alternative clinical applications.

Podiatry

Verrucae

Low Level Laser Therapy can be used on its own as a treatment modality or in conjunction with the currently offered cryotherapy treatment. It works to support the immune response through increasing white blood cell activity meaning used on its own it can work to speed up the body’s own immune response and offer resolution of the verruca. Research has suggested that 70% of verruca’s treated with Low Level Laser Therapy resolved within 6 weeks as opposed to 17% in the placebo group with no treatment. Results can be seen after weekly treatments between 2-6 weeks depending on the size of the area affected and the patient’s immune response. It can also be used in conjunction with the cryotherapy treatment we offer at the clinic which can be painful. It can work to block the pain receptors so using both treatments effectively gives double the effect!

Fungal Nails

Low Level Laser Therapy works to improve the growth factor, improving the quality of blood which aids tissue response. It also improves the immune response to the fungal spores, increasing the body’s natural growth and immune processes to restore the nail to a more aesthetically pleasing state. Treatments usually consist of 1 a week for 6-8 weeks and results are usually expected between 4-6 months.

Plantar Fasciitis

Low Level Laser Therapy can be used in the treatment of plantar fasciitis. It works to reduce the inflammation, ease pain and stimulate the fibroblasts for faster regeneration of the connective structures in the tendon. Treatment is repeated every 2-3 days for 2-3 weeks in conjunction with addressing the cause of the plantar fasciitis with treatment by our Physiotherapist and Podiatrists.
